Shuchen did her undergraduate degrees in Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science at the University of Rochester, followed by a Master’s degree in Neural Systems and Computation. Shuchen joined our lab in March 2020 and she works on the human ability to chunk separate elements in a continous stream of inputs into one coherent and reusable unit. She studies human chunking in sequence learning tasks, modelling this type of behavior as resource-rational reinforcement learning. Shuchen hopes that her findings in human chunking can be used to build improved machine learning algorithms that can extract meaningful representations from richly structured data.
